Stout Tasting At The Beer Table
Posted by Donny on January 21st, 2010

Recently Matt, Phae and I went to a stout tasting at the Beer Table in Park Slope. Note to self, next time eat a whole loaf of bread before going. Well I didn’t know Chris Munsey from Murray Cheese, the one that ran the tasting, would served a stout with 18% alcohol in it. WOOOOO. Just like port he said. Suuuuree did.
It’s been a while since I last had a drink at Beer Table. It was great that the owners remembered me. Hence why I love Beer Table, so personal. Matt was already there and was looking through the menu. We both decided to get a beer before the stout tasting. I went with a Winter beer. It was a pretty good beer.
I’m probably the worst person to go to a beer tasting because they all kinda taste the same to me. But I do know when I don’t like something. I really did try to examine the beer and really taste it.
Here’s the rundown of what stout we had and what was paired with each beer.

Grafton cheddar
Wye Valley Dorothy Goodbody’s stout
Gabe’s pork liver pate
North Coast Old Rasputin
Swiss cheese toast with spicy mango pickle
Thornbridge Saint Petersburg
Zarzuskis on rye bread with mustard and butter
Dogfish Head World Wide Stout 2008
Jasper Hill bayley hazen blue
Mikkeller Black
Throughout the night Chris reminded us that we shouldn’t worry about what to drink or what food to pair with the beer. Go with what you like, go with what taste good to you. But that night I was glad it was Chris that did the pairing. Everything on the plate was so good. Especially the pork pate! I love pate. I was eyeing Matt’s pate because I notice his piece was bigger than mine! The spicy mango pickle wasn’t spicy nor pickled enough for my taste. As for the blue cheese, it was great! I hate stinky cheese but this blue cheese was good.
All the beers that I tasted that night were excellent! Especially the last 2. Those were crazzzzy. Just like port Chris said. I like to get a whole case please.
